This paper describes the asymmetric aminohydroxylation discovered recently by Sharpless. Employing this method, β -hydroxyamino compounds could be synthesized directly from olefins in enantiomerically enriched form. In some cases, asymmetric aminohydroxylation could be carried out with high regioselectivity (20:1) and high enantioselectivity (>98% e.e.).
