Abstract

The organic reactions mediated by high valent groups 5 and 6 metal chlorides were reviewed in this paper, including (1) the chlorination of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes by group 5/6 metal halides; (2) the reactions using group 5/6 metal halides as Lewis acid catalysts; (3) metathesis reaction of alkenes and polymerization of alkynes; (4) MoCl₅ mediated oxidative coupling reaction of aromatic compounds and (5) formation of thioethers and ring-expansion reactions.
