Synthesis and Structure Research of a Novel Tribond Bridged Bipyridine Complex

A novel bipyridyl complex L [4-methyl-2,6-bis(pyridin-3-ylethynyl)aniline] was synthesized by an improved Sonogashira reaction through one-pot synthesis. Compared to common two-step synthesis method, the new route reduced reaction steps and improved the yield. The structure of L was characterized by IR, 1H NMR and element analysis, and further confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Complex L crystallized in orthorhombic crystal system, Pca21 space group, with parameters of a=10.178 Å, b=10.972 Å, c=28.949 Å|αβγ=90°. L will be applied in coordination chemistry as a novel bent biprydyl ligand.
