Study on the Chemical Constituents from the Latex of Antiaris toxicaria

Six compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of the latex of Antiaris toxicaria (Pers.) Lesch collected in Hainan. The structures were established as toxicarioside I (1), strophanthidin (2), periplogenin (3), (3β,5α,14β,17α)-3,14-dihydroxypregnan-20-one (4), α-tocopherol (5) and 3,4,5-trimethoxy- phenol (6) by spectroscopic methods (IR, 1D-, 2D-NMR and HR-ESIMS). Among them, compound 1 was a new cardenolide, compounds 4 and 5 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compounds 13 showed cytotoxic effects on chronic myelogenous leukemia (K562), human gastric carcinoma (SGC-7901) and human hepatoma (SMMC-7721) cell lines with IC50 values ranged from 0.001 to 12.3 μmol•L-1.
