Synthesis and Characterization of the Complex of Chitosan-zinc-N-salicylidene Glycine Schiff Base and the Effect on Elimination of Superoxide Anion

Chitosan-zinc-N-salicylidene glycine Schiff base has been synthesized relying on the coordinative potential of chitosan and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, UV-vis spectrum, and thermal analysis. The effect of this complex on the elimination of superoxide anion was investigated by Pyrogallol-NBT colorimetry. The conclusion could be drawn that the ability of the chitosan-zinc-N- salicylidene glycine Schiff base is similar to zinc-N-salicylidene glycine Schiff base with lower toxicity.
