An electrochemical study on transfer of charged species across interface of two phases in extraction systems I: Electrochemical characteristics of phase-transfer of nickel(II) and cobalt(II) in 1,10-phenanthroline systems

The electrochem. behavior of nickel(II) and cobalt(II)-1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in the 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE)/aq. systems has been studied at the ascending water electrode and the stationary water electrode by current scan polarog. and chronopotentiometry. Similar electrochem. behavior was observed when nickel(II) and phen or cobalt(II) and phen existed in the aqueous phase before electrolysis. There are obvious differences between nickel(II) and cobalt(II) when phen was in the DCE phase. The differences can be explained by the kinetic-effect between nickel(II) and cobalt(II) in complexing with phen (from the DCE phase). The mechanism of the phase-transfer processes has also been elucidated.
