Synthesis of 2, 5-disubstituted-1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles and oxadiazolines

By the condensation of 2-phenyl-1, 2, 3-triazole-4-formyl hydrazide (1) with substituted benzoic acids in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride, six novel 2-aryl-5-(2'-phenyl-1', 2', 3'-triazole-4'-yl)- 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles (2) were obtained. Reaction of acid hydrazide (1) with keto compounds gives corresponding hydrazones (3), which could be readily converted to their congener oxadiazolines (4) in good yields by treatment with Ac~2O. Their structures were established by elemental analysis, IR, ^1H NMR and MS spectroscopy.
