Syntheses and structures of two crystalline inclusion compounds G_2PEDS·2(H_2O) and G_2PEDS·naphthalene

Two crystalline inclusion compounds,[(CH_6N_3)]_2[(C_(12)H_8O_7S_2) ]·MeOH·2(H_2O) (1) and [(CH_6N_3)]_2[(C_(12)H_8O_7S_2)]·(C_(10)H_8) (2), were synthesized from guanidinium ions [G, C(NH_2)_3~+] and polar pillar 4,4'-phenyletherdisulfonate (PEDS), and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Both 1 and 2 crystallize in space group P-1, with cell parameters a = 0.7509(4) nm, b = 1.2113(6) nm, c = 1.5936(8) nm, α = 102.636(10)°, β = 102. 703(11)°, γ = 91.318(10)° (1); and a = 0.75409(3) nm, b = 1.21584(5) nm, c = 3.09376(14) nm, α = 81.506(2)°, β = 89.669(2)°, γ = 88. 890(2)°, respectively. Both the host frameworks of 1 and 2 adopt bilayer-bipillar structures, one of the less common architecture isomer observed in the host G_2S (S = organodisulfonate) framework.
