Investigation of Effects of Incorporated Ni2+ on Crystal Structure of Layered Double Hydroxides Containing Cu(Ⅱ) and Cr(Ⅲ)

This paper reports systematic investigation about the preparation of Cu(Ⅱ)-Ni(Ⅱ)-Cr(Ⅲ) layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with different Cu2+/Ni2+/Cr3+ ratio obtained by the new method developed in our laboratory in which nucleation and aging steps were separated. It was shown that when Cu2+/Ni2+/Cr3+ atomic ratio is between 1:2:1~1:3:1 in the reaction mixture under the hydrothermal aging conditions that aging temperature is 180℃, and aging time is above 4 h, fine crystallized LDH can be obtained. The LDHs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectroscopy, chemical analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and particle size distribution analysis to describe their structure, constitution and thermal behavior. The results showed that the incorporation of Ni2+ in the layer improved the crystalline perfection and structural stability of LDH.
