Pyrolysis of 7-hydrogen-perfluoro-(4-methyl-3, 6-dioxa octyl sulfonyl fluoride) (1) at about 230`C in the presence of aluminium oxide-copper oxide-ferric oxide catalysts yeidls 7-hydrogen -perfluoro-(4-methyl-3,6-dioxaoctane) (2). Under the same conditions, pyrolysis of perfluoro-1, 10-difluorosulfonyl-3,8-dioxa- decane (3) yields perfluoro-3,8-dioxa-decyl sulfonyl fluoride (5) while above 245`C perfluoro-3,8-dioxa-decane (4) is also produced. The dependence of the yield on the catalysts composition and reaction temperature has been studied. These catalysts can also be used for eliminating the sulfonyl fluoride groups from the surface of perfluoropolymer films. The structures of the products are identified by IR, NMR, MS and elemental analysis.
