封面介绍An efficient visible light-facilitated decarbon-carboxy- lation of activated alkenes has been successfully devel-oped by Duan et al. on page 1675, which provides a new method for the synthesis of phenylacetic acid and its derivatives. The mechanism study shows that the reaction realizes the synthesis of the corresponding carboxylic acids with constant apparent carbon number by substituting the carbon-carbon double bond of alkenes.

封面介绍The synthesis of quinolines by the reactions of 2-amino- benzyl alcohols with β-dicarbonyl compounds in water is reported by Wang, Li, Lin, Le and Xie on page 1649. The reaction was easily performed in the presence of active manganese dioxide. Furthermore, the correspon- ding quinolines can be obtained from 2-aminophenyl alcohols and acetophenone in water, choline hydroxide and active manganese dioxide as additives and heating at 50 ℃ are required.
