Allylation Reactions of Aromatic Aldehydes with Neodymium in Water

Abstract

The allylation reactions of aldehydes with allyl bromide were carried out in 76%～93% yields with Nd-SnCl₂-H₂O under ultrasound irradiation at room temperature for 50～60 min. The reactions in the same system gave homoallylic alcohols in 30%～86% yields without ultrasound irradiation under stirring for 3～4 h. The main advantages of the present procedure are shorter reaction time, higher yield and environmentally benign way.
