Abstract

The usual methods of transesterification for synthesis of biodiesel, the definition, the structure, the method of preparation and some properties of ionic liquids are introduced, and the application of acidic ionic liquids as catalyst to esterification reaction is briefly described. Then advances of application of ionic liquids to the synthesis of biodiesel are reviewed. At last, the future development tendency of ionic liquids in the synthesis of biodiesel is prospected．
