Ethylenediamine-functionalized Cellulose Supported Nano-palladium for Suzuki Reaction

The Pd nanoparticles immobilized on the surface of cellulose-supported ethylenediamine (Cell-EDA-Pd0) were achieved by a simple procedure applying the corresponding ethylenediamine funtionalized cellulose (Cell-EDA) and PdCl2 in ethanol solution. The prepared catalyst (Cell-EDA-Pd0) was characterized by SEM, TEM, etc. TEM confirmed that the Pd nanoparticles were spherical and had distribution with the size of 10~20 nm. Cell-EDA-Pd0 was found to be air and moisture stable and exhibited significant catalytic activity for Suzuki reactions under milder operating conditions. Furthermore, the catalyst could be easily recovered by simple filtration and reused for at least 6 cycles without losing its activities.
