A series of ionic liquids containing ethyl acetate moiety on the cations were designed and synthesized, using starting material ethyl chloroacetate and N-heterocyclic compounds (1-methylimidazole, pyridine, N-ethylpiperidine and N-methyl morpholine) through two synthesis steps. All 12 synthesized compounds were characterized by some physical property measurement, elemental analysis and ¹H NMR spectra. The melting points of the most compounds are below 100 ℃. They are room temperature ionic liquids. The relative stability of the prepared ionic liquids owes to the wide scope of their thermostability.
