Abstract

Monoacetals or monoketals were synthesized by condensation reactions of pentaerythritol with aldehydes or ketone using phosphotungstic acid supported on active carbon as a catalyst and dimethylformamide as a solvent under microwave irradiation. Nine hetero diacetals and diketals of pentaerythritol were then synthesized by the condensation reactions of such monoacetals and monoketals with other aldehydes. All the mono- and heterodiacetals and ketals were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and ¹H NMR spectra.
