Synthesis of 5-alkyl-5-tosyloxyl-isopropylidene malonate

Abstract

A convenient method for the synthesis of 5-alkyl-5- tosyloxy-isopropylidene malonate by the reaction of [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo] benzene with 5-alkyl isopropylidene malonate is reported. A possible mechanism is described.
