The fluorescence quenching of aromatic oxazole derivatives and the photoinduced initiative system composed of these compounds and CCl~4 for polymerization

The fluorescence quenching of aromatic oxazole derivatives by CCl4 in different solvents was studied. The Stern-Volmer constants of fluorescence quenching are linearly related with solvent polarity parameter, Et(30) values. There is a definite charge transfer character in the quenching process. The system composed of oxazole and CCl4 may be a new kind of photoinduced initiative system for polymerisation This system can initiate monomer polymerisation by radical process. The mechanism of photoinduced initiative polymerisation is discussed.
