The mechanisms for the reaction of triethylamine with 2-chloro-5- methoxy-p-benzoquinone in different solvents under UV irradiation were investigated by the chemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization ( CIDNP) . The results showed that the charge transfer complex (CTC) was first formed and then charge separation occurred to produce ion radical pairs. The back electron transfer caused the methylene of triethylamine to give emission CIDNP polarization. The UV-vis experiment confirmed the existence of CTC as well.
