Study on the mechanism of synthesis and curing of boron-containing phenol-formaldehyde resin

The chem. changes of HCHO-PhOH-H3BO3 copolymer during the preparation and crosslinking process were studied by IR spectroscopy. Benzoyl borate and dibenzyl ether linkages were formed during the preparation process while Ph borate linkage was formed in the curing process. The formation of carbonyl groups was a result of oxidative cleavage of the benzyl ether linkage.
