Nine novel 2,2-dimethyl-5-(substituted phenyl)-3-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)pentan-3-ols and two novel 2,2-dimethyl-5-(substitutedphenyl)-3-(1,2,4-triazol-4-ylmethyl)pentan-3-ols were synthesized by condensa-tion, hydrogenation, epoxidation and ring-opening reactions from substituted benzaldehydes. 1,2,4-Triazol-1-yl and 1,2,4-triazol-4-yl derivatives could be selectively synthesized under certain condi-tions. Their structures were clearly established by MS, 1H NMR spectra and elemental analy-sis. The crystal structure of compound 1a had been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The preliminary bioassays indicated that some compounds showed fungicidal activities.
