Twenty new 3-arylmethylidenehydrazinocarbonyl-5-(p-substituted phenyl)-pyrazole derivatives were designed and synthesized in good to excellent yields using 4-substituted acetophenone and diethyl oxalate as the starting materials. All the new compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectra, while compounds 4b and 4h were further characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Besides, the results of primary biological activity experiments on the germination process of mung bean showed that these newly synthesized compounds had good activity.
