The synthesis and reactions of polyfluoroalkyltrimethylsilane

Abstract

The polyfluoroalkyltrimethylsilane compounds were prepared They can be used to introduce the polyfluoroalkyl group into carbonyl compounds, giving the corresponding alcs. The carbon-silicon bond was cleaved by fluoride or bases to produce polyfluoroalkyl anion which abstracted hydrogen to give hydroperfluoroalkane or reacted with aldehydes to give polyfluoroalkyl carbinols. E.g reaction of Cl(CF2)4SiMe3 with heptanal in the presence of Me4NF gave 88% Cl(CF2)4CH(OH)(CH2)5Me. The alkyl exchange reactions between polyfluoroalkylsilanes with organolithium compounds have also been carried out.
