Selective coupling reactions of Grignard reagents with acyl halides by copper complexes catalysis: Synthesis of straight chain ketones

The selective coupling reactions of Grignard reagents with acyl chlorides and halo acyl chlorides catalyzed by some soluble copper complexes was reported. This is a convenient method for synthesis of straight chain aliphatic ketones and halo ketones. E.g., stirring hexanoyl chloride with pentylmagnesium bromide and Li2CuCl4 in THF for 8 h gave 80.6% 6-undecanone.
