Kinetics and mechanism of reaction of Mo4O12(O2)24- with HSO3- was studied in aqueous acid. A mechanism is proposed with protonation of the O22- as a slow step (k = 7.4 L mol-1 s-1) followed by bisulfite reaction. Data are given for pH ?2.42.
