In aqueous micelles formed from the chiral surfactants N-dodecyl-N,N-dimethylephedrine bromide and N-hexadecyl-N,N-dimethylephedrine bromide, a series of optical active products were obtained by Michael addition of nitromethane or thiophenol to chalcones I (R = H, 2-Br, 4-Br, 4-NO2, 4-MeO) using piperine as catalyst, the enantiomer excess was up to 17 %. The micellar system also accelerated the Michael reaction.
